Abstract

Developers of relational database systems have made few concessions to the Web, preferring that Web applica-tions access relational tables through SQL (or other programming interfaces) via intermediate gateway software. Result sets from database queries continue to be delivered to applications for further processing one row at a time. This article describes ways that relational databases are accessed on the Web through HTML and XML, and some system integration issues.
